The heart is mentioned a lot in the Bible because God wants our hearts to be filled with Him. The heart is where our passions and desires lie. It’s where our excitement lies.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
– Matthew 6:21 [NKJV]
Whatever we deem valuable is where our heart is. If our hearts are worldly, then we lost our affections towards God. Many of us fall into this trap of consumerism, where we need things to feel complete when only Jesus can make us whole.
Satan’s goal is to make us lose our zeal (our passion) towards God. Satan will use things that please the flesh to get us sidetracked from the things of the Lord. Satan will use money, fame, sex, drugs, and whatever it takes to entice you to turn your heart away from God. In your mind, you can say, “I love God.” but your heart is far from Him.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Living a double life is very dangerous. One minute you’re this sweet church kid, then the next minute, you are this rebellious swearing kid at school. Religion (good works) is just a surface level of Christianity, but true Christianity comes when The Holy Spirit enters your heart. To have the Holy Spirit, you must be born-again. You can grow up in church your whole life and not know Jesus Christ. Too many people call themselves Christmas but live like heathens.

How to know if I love God with all my heart? Here are some critical ways if your heart is in the right place.
1. Do you think about God in your day-to-day life?
Meditating on God shows that you are considerate towards Him. When we think of the goodness of God, it’s hard to take for granted the grace He has given us.
2. Do you pray daily?
Prayer is essential in the life of a believer. Do you talk to God? If you do, is your prayer life self-centered or Kingdom-centered?
3. Do you talk about God?
Sharing our faith is what shows that we are passionate about God even when it’s not convenient. Talking about God can be awkward sometimes, especially when you’re in a very hostile environment towards God. We express our love by putting God over our comfort. Sometimes it’s hard talking about God around Christians because the cares of this world consume so many Christians to the point where they become angry when you tell them to trust God.
4. Are you still passionate about God even during challenging times?
This is the ultimate factor of having a Godly heart. Will you still praise God when your money is low? Will you even pray when everyone turned their backs against you? Will you trust God when everyone says, “it’s impossible?” We can get bitter and resentful towards God when things don’t work in our favor, or we can deepen our relationship with The Lord. When our hearts are broken, it gives God a chance to comfort us only if we allow Him to.

Let’s not let coronavirus or any other world event cause us to lose our passion for God. It’s through our trials when we are made more like Christ.
