Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

“‘God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.'”
– Matthew 5:3 [NLT]

What does the term “poor in spirit” actually mean? Being poor in spirit means that you recognize your need for Jesus. Being poor in spirit doesn’t have to mean being financially poor, but it does mean being brokenhearted in a spiritual sense. Jesus loves when we come to Him, knowing that we are broken and unworthy because we show Him how weak and powerless we are without Him. As much as I like to be strong, my strength comes from above. We don’t always have to come to God sad, but we do want to show God how good He is, and how much we need Him every day in our lives.
