The Danger Of Our Ego

The Danger Of Our Ego

I was just watching a Christian Youtuber talk about the manosphere community and how it’s rooted in insecurity. To those unfamiliar with the manosphere community, it’s a community of men who are big on self-improvement and complementarianism (which can be good things) but mask it with disdain for women. Men in this community come in looking for meaning with the baggage of insecurity.

Throughout history, we see men who stepped up to be leaders and men who cowered away. Adam had the opportunity to reject the fruit from Satan, but he decided to follow Eve’s advice and cursed the whole planet. When God asked him about it, rather than owning up to it, he blamed Eve instead. God has called all of us men to do amazing things, but when we run away and make excuses, we dismiss our God-given potential. When we ignore our responsibilities as men, we are showing disrespect to our Father.

If we are going to thrive in our careers, marriages, and ministries, we must be willing to let go of our egos and let God have his way with us. It’s hard to put away pleasure for spiritual growth, but if we truly love and honor God, we must be disciplined enough to obey God at all costs.

“If you love me, obey my commandments.”
– John 14:15 [NLT]

“No wonder you can’t believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God. ‘Yet it isn’t I who will accuse you before the Father. Moses will accuse you! Yes, Moses, in whom you put your hopes. If you really believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me. But since you don’t believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?'”
– John 5:44‭-‬47 [NLT]

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
– James 1:22‭-‬25 [NLT]

“But Samuel replied, ‘What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.'”
– 1 Samuel 15:22 [NLT]

If we’re going to be the men God has called us to be we must be willing to take heed of His commands. Ego is just insecurity disguised as confidence. If we want to be more Christ-like we must let go of what we think is right and submit to God as well as those who have authority over us.
