It’s okay to mourn. The Bible says, “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4 NIV). It also says, “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy” (Psalm 16:5 NIV). These are promises in Scripture that we can bank on. It doesn’t say we won’t cry tears, but it does say we will overcome and even have “songs of joy.”
I know this life is filled with unfair things. People who to jail for another person’s crime, a mother who lost three children due to miscarriages, and a car accident that leaves one paralyzed for life. God never promised a fair life, but He promised that He would be with us!
I have dealt with a lot of disappointments in my life. I used to be more athletic and fit as a child. But little known to most people, some medications slow down the metabolism and add extra weight. I used to be on this medicine called Paxil. Its nickname is “pack-on.” There are a lot of people who are on anti-depressants for anxiety and depression that suffer similarly. Misconceptions create judgment. Wisdom in a situation helps.
Another unfair situation is my sister’s best friend died on her birthday in her early twenties in a car accident while my sister was away in college. A drunk driver hit her. Doesn’t that seem unfair? Absolutely! Does it make me mad at the devil? Certainly!
“And we know that in all things work together for the good for those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 NIV). Even my sister’s friend’s death? Yes! Even your financial difficulties? Sure! Even your problems with your family? Yep!
Colossians 3:23-24, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (NIV).
Colossians 1:28-29, “So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me” (NLT).
God will eventually “wipe away every tear away!” (Revelation 21:4 NKJV). Tears will be a thing of the past, but “songs of joy” will be forevermore! Hallelujah!
